EAN-13 barcode generator

Type the first 12 digits and the check digit is calculated for you. Paste all 13 digits to check whether a code is valid. Download a vector SVG that stays sharp at any print size.

Check digit is 1. Full code: 4006381333931

4006381333931

How the check digit works

Number the first 12 digits from the left. Add the digits in odd positions, then add three times the digits in even positions. The check digit is the amount needed to reach the next multiple of 10. For 400638133393: 20 + 3 × 23 = 89, so the check digit is 1.

Where do EAN numbers come from?

For retail and most marketplaces, buy your company prefix from your national GS1 organisation. Made-up numbers can clash with other products and get listings blocked. The sample number above is a common test code.

Do you need a barcode for GPSR?

No. EU GPSR asks for a type, batch or serial number or another identifier, not a barcode. See the GPSR label requirements guide.
